Overview
One of Aurea’s signature techniques is crochet. It is a meditative craft that helps cope with anxiety and stress and is central to the Aurea ethos. The focus of this project is to bring together a classic fashion craft and technology. By designing the pieces digitally, it becomes easier to produce the garment and avoid mistakes.
Technical Approach
The core of the project was to digitalize crochet patterns in order to use them as textures on a garment.
This process includes crocheting a square of the required design, using a high-definition scanner, and processing the scanned image through a series of software, including Photoshop and Substance Sampler. The end result is a seamless, repeatable tile that can be applied to any design.
The custom letter patches were created through a different process. An image of all the crocheted letters was found in Tom Daley's "Made with Love" book. The page was scanned and worked on in Photoshop to create a grayscale version of the patches. In Clo3D, the meshes of the letters were created and sewn to the garments in the desired locations.
