The Fabricant x CYBERPUNK2077

Overview

Aurea was briefed by The Fabricant CEO Kelly Murphy to design a fully functional co-creator tool.

The tool was to have multiple layers of design choices, comprising a set of outfits, textures, color choices, environments, and lighting. The final product was achieved through a team effort and was built in Unreal Engine, designed to be game-ready for a chance to be implemented in the sequel of Cyberpunk 2077.

Technical approach

Aurea took on the role of Texture Designer. The focus of this work was to create unique textures and apply them to the garments. To achieve this result, the pipeline software had to be different, so we decided to go down the automation route.

Using Substance Designer, two different texture generators were engineered. These software programs are fed simple vector designs and output a series of maps with an elaborated line design.

Different options were created through this method to allow players to decide which pattern would best suit their outfit.

One more layer of customizability was added by animating these patterns through material nodes in Unreal Engine.
